What others have to say

Pottery class has become one of the highlights of my week – apart from the new friendships forged and all the laughing and fun, Joanne is an absolute master at what she does and creates a welcoming space where everyone is welcome to show up as they are. She constantly inspires and challenges our self-beliefs and support us to succeed at any pottery project we come up with (or see on Pinterest!). Her knowledge, skills and her eye for everything beautiful makes this this class the perfect occasion to take a moment for yourself and to walk out recharged for the rest of the week.

Pottery bust sculpture pot with Karoo plant for hair by Hanri - pottery class student

Pottery is my time-out from the world, a place of complete relaxation and peace. When I sit down with clay, everything around me seems to disappear. My entire focus is on the piece I am creating, and nothing else matters. It is an escape from the stresses and distractions of everyday life into a state of absolute serenity.

A huge part of this wonderful experience is JoAnne. As a teacher, she has incredible patience and knowledge. No matter what technique you are trying to learn, she takes the time to explain and demonstrate it clearly. Even when something goes wrong with your artwork, JoAnne always has a solution. She patiently guides you through the process of fixing it without ever making you feel discouraged or inadequate.

JoAnne has a special gift for teaching beginners. Even if you have never touched a piece of clay before, she makes you feel comfortable and confident from the very start. In fact, once you have experienced working with clay under her guidance, it is impossible not to fall in love with it. Her enthusiasm is contagious, constantly motivating you to create more, learn more, and challenge yourself.

One of the most exciting parts of pottery is seeing the final result after your creation has been fired in the kiln. Every time the kiln is opened, there is a sense of anticipation and excitement. No matter how much experience you have, it is always a delightful surprise to see how the finished piece has transformed. It feels like unwrapping a gift and discovering the beauty that has emerged from your hard work and creativity.

JoAnne encourages you to attempt what may seem impossible and supports you every step of the way. She helps you achieve your vision and often go beyond what you thought you were capable of creating. Her guidance, patience, and encouragement inspire confidence, and the end result is often a piece that feels like an absolute masterpiece.

I highly recommend JoAnne’s pottery classes to anyone looking for a creative outlet, a way to relax, and an opportunity to discover their artistic side. Pottery is more than just creating with clay, it is therapy, inspiration, joy, and a journey of self-expression.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I started knowing absolutely nothing about pottery. Jo was brilliant at explaining and helping me to understand me everything from the basics to the advanced concepts about firing pieces. My method of learning is normally to make a mess and figure things out from them. Jo picked up on this pretty quickly and accommodated this into her teaching style when it came to helping me to figure out the basics out well still honouring my learning method.
